Building an Always-On Search Engine for India's Abandoned Elderly. How BrandMonkey turned SHEOWS' three-decade rescue mission into a scalable Google Ad Grants growth engine — putting the charity in front of donors searching for elderly care, scaling from 5,400 to 17,300 monthly impressions and growing tracked conversions from zero to 94 a month while cutting cost per action from $152 to $49 (Feb–Jun 2026).
SHEOWS — the Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans' Welfare Society, rescuing abandoned, destitute and homeless elderly across India since 1994 — partnered with BrandMonkey to solve one problem: giving that depended on seasonal appeals and word of mouth rather than a reliable, always-on stream of support. BrandMonkey built and scaled a Google Ad Grants engine that puts SHEOWS in front of people actively searching for elderly care, old-age homes and NGO giving. Across Feb–Jun 2026, the account grew from 5,436 to 17,295 monthly impressions, activated Performance Max campaigns, and lifted tracked conversions — contacts, direction requests, page views and lead-form submissions — from 0 to 94 a month, while cutting cost per action from $152 to $49.

SHEOWS — the Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans' Welfare Society — is one of India's most respected old-age-care organisations, founded in 1994 and built around one powerful idea: to give abandoned parents a "home away from home."
Led today by CEO Mr. Saurabh Bhagat, SHEOWS runs a 24/7 rescue operation that finds homeless, destitute and often gravely ill senior citizens on the streets and brings them into full-time care. The organisation operates through its Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram homes and care centres, supported by an ambulance-led rescue network: the flagship home in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi, a care centre in Okhla, New Delhi, a large long-term-care campus in Garhmukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh, and a corporate office in Gurugram, Haryana.
What sets SHEOWS apart is a genuine end-to-end model — 24/7 street rescue, free shelter, food and clothing, hospital-grade medical care and dignified last rites — backed by serious in-house infrastructure: a 40-bed special care unit, on-site pharmacy, pathology lab, physiotherapy centre, ambulance service and dedicated dementia care. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860), FCRA registered, and 80G tax-exemption certified, so Indian donors can claim tax benefits.
SHEOWS had everything a cause needs to win support — a 30-year track record, real rescues and full financial transparency. What it didn't have was a predictable, scalable way to convert that trust into steady online giving.
We built the targeting strategy around who actually gives to elderly care — not everyone who casually engages with an emotional post.
Intent signals on Google: high-intent searches around donating to elderly, old-age homes, NGO giving and 80G tax-saving donations — captured directly through the Ad Grants search engine.
Interest & value signals: audiences engaged with elderly welfare, social causes, spirituality/seva and CSR — reachable before they actively search.
Diaspora & domestic mix: Indian donors across metros plus NRIs abroad who want to give back home — supported by SHEOWS' FCRA registration for foreign contributions.
Mindset over demographics: people moved by dignity for elders and reassured by proof, transparency and tax benefit — not just a one-off emotional pull.
Not every click was a good-fit donor. As volume scaled, recurring patterns showed up in the data that needed to be addressed head-on rather than ignored:
Problem: Trust is the biggest barrier in giving.
Solution: We led with proof — 7,000+ rescues, 550+ residents daily and 80G transparency — to build confidence before asking for the gift.
Problem: Sad imagery drives engagement but not always giving.
Solution: We shifted messaging toward dignity, rescue-and-recovery outcomes and a clear, specific ask so intent could convert into completed actions.
Problem: Long or clunky donation flows lose donors, and conversion tracking wasn't firing early on.
Solution: A rebuilt, fast donation page and proper conversion tracking became the priority next phase to cut friction and measure giving.
With care costs that recur every single day, single gifts underdeliver — so alongside acquisition we scoped messaging and retargeting around monthly giving, ration sponsorship and "adopt an elderly" to grow recurring support over time.
India's elderly-care giving space sits between large, faceless national charities on one end and small, hard-to-verify local appeals on the other. SHEOWS was positioned deliberately in between — a large-scale yet personal, fully transparent organisation where a donor can see exactly whom they help and how.
This positioning shaped every layer of the campaign — from channel mix to ad messaging — ensuring SHEOWS was marketed as the credible, high-impact place to give, not just another emotional appeal.
The strategy was built on one core principle: consistency beats intensity. Rather than short, high-spend bursts around festivals, we built an always-on Google Ad Grants presence that captured active giving intent and new discovery, and improved efficiency month over month.
Distinct donor segments were messaged separately rather than treated as one generic "donor" audience:
Reassurance-led messaging — proof of impact, transparency and the 80G benefit — with a low-friction ask; "give back home" with FCRA-compliant giving for Indians abroad.
Mission and belonging messaging — "adopt an elderly", monthly sponsorship and the ongoing cost of care — plus compliance-led messaging for CSR and institutional partners.
Creative and campaign structure were built to meet high-intent searchers with a matching promise — real rescues and proof, not vague "help the needy" language.
Campaigns mirrored the exact terms donors and families search for, so high-intent traffic met a matching SHEOWS promise:
As conversion tracking matured, the account began registering real donor-intent actions rather than just clicks — the signals that precede a gift.
Creative framed elders with respect and hope — rescue-to-recovery arcs — rather than relying only on distressing imagery. In a trust-sensitive category, proof plus dignity beats pity.
SHEOWS' search presence runs on the Google Ad Grant — up to $10,000/month of free search advertising for eligible nonprofits. It is powerful, but it comes with real constraints that shape how the account is built and scaled.
A clear upward trajectory across the engagement: impressions and clicks scaled, Performance Max came online from March, and once conversion tracking matured the account grew tracked actions from 0 to 94 a month while cost per action fell sharply.

"Conversions" are tracked engagement actions — contacts, direction requests, page views and lead-form submissions — not donations; donation-conversion tracking is the priority next phase. July shown as partial (1–14) and excluded from totals.
From April onward, Performance Max campaigns delivered the majority of impressions and clicks and virtually all tracked conversions, while Smart and Search campaigns provided foundational, always-on visibility.
A 68% drop in cost per action across three months — proof of an account getting more efficient as it matured and scaled, not one propped up by bigger budgets.
Monthly impressions scaled from 5,436 in February to a peak of 17,295 in May, while tracked conversions climbed to 94 in June — evidence the account built a repeatable, compounding pipeline of donor intent rather than a one-off spike.
Beyond the ad-account numbers, this engagement changed how SHEOWS reaches and converts supporters:
Five consecutive months of always-on, improving performance gave SHEOWS a stable base to build on — and a clear, tracked pipeline of donor intent ready to be converted into measurable, recurring giving in the next phase.
With a proven, always-on search foundation in place, the next phase focuses on converting high-intent traffic into tracked, recurring donations:
The engine now exists and the intent is proven — the next step is closing the loop from click to tracked, recurring gift.
By building a disciplined Google Ad Grants engine — scaling impressions from 5,436 to 17,295 a month, activating Performance Max, and growing tracked conversions from zero to 94 while cutting cost per action from $152 to $49 — SHEOWS moved from unpredictable, appeal-dependent visibility to a consistent, measurable search presence in front of high-intent donors.
This partnership shows what's possible when a deeply trusted, three-decade mission is paired with a disciplined, data-led digital engine. For SHEOWS, that means turning decades of compassion for India's abandoned elderly into a dependable, scalable channel of support — one BrandMonkey continues to refine every month.
